The Tuscaloosa County School System this week introduced the first assistant principal for the new Northport Intermediate School — Jessica Sartain. Sartain most recently served as the reading coach at Rock Quarry Elementary School in Tuscaloosa City and also worked at Arcadia Elementary and Northport Elementary School.

1. The Northport City Council on Monday voted 4-0 to hire Tera Tubbs as Northport's next city engineer. Tubbs currently works as executive director of Infrastructure and Public Services for the City of Tuscaloosa. (More on Patch)

2. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says a fatal five-vehicle crash on Sunday occurred when an Alabama State Trooper struck a Jeep Cherokee driven by Jose Angel Guerrero Ortiz, 47, of Tuscaloosa. Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene. (More on Patch)

3. Chelsea Barton caught up with Tuscaloosa County District 3 Commissioner Mark Nelson on Monday to discuss potential plans after a Duncanville landowner donated property for a community storm shelter. (WVUA 23 News)

- Angela Mayo, 30, was sentenced Monday to 50 years in prison for the 2019 murder of Shanina Smith, 27, who was shot and killed at the LEAR plant where the two worked together in Vance.

- Retired realtor and community philanthropist Sandra Hall Ray was announced on Monday as the 2021 United Way of West Alabama Campaign Chair during the organization’s 75th anniversary.
