Tuscaloosa Pursuit Ends In Crash, Officer-Involved Shooting

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting early Wednesday morning following a vehicle pursuit in Tuscaloosa.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multiagency unit, said a domestic violence suspect prompted the chase, which ended when the suspect crashed at McFarland Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Kennedy said the vehicle was approached by officers, before the suspect fired a handgun at least once and a TPD officer returned fire.
He then said standard protocol for the investigative unit in saying the case has been assumed by VCU investigators who are not affiliated with TPD.

In an update Wednesday morning, Kennedy said the suspect is being treated for injuries, but no law enforcement officials were injured in the shootout.
TPD said all lanes of Veterans Memorial Parkway near University Mall will be closed to traffic for several hours Wednesday morning.
