“This park has truly been brought back to life,” said Chris Blankenship, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. “For years, Lake Lurleen went without the investment it deserved, and it began to show. But with its stunning location on the lake, we knew it had incredible potential. Today, it’s been completely refreshed.”

The renovation includes 67 upgraded RV campsites equipped with modern water, sewer and electrical hookups, as well as a new entrance featuring an improved check-in station and office.

Visitors will also find a refreshed beach area, a new playground, seven newly constructed pavilions and nine bathhouses designed with private, family-style suites.

Other improvements include a new camp store, upgrades to the boat launch and dock, newly paved roads and expanded Wi-Fi access throughout the park.

Drinking water and wastewater systems were also significantly upgraded with support from a grant provided by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).

“We’ve created more than a park,” Alabama State Parks Director Matthew Capps said. “We’ve created a place where families come together, kids of all abilities can discover something new, and every visit turns into a lasting memory.”

Alabama State Parks says the Lake Lurleen project is part of an $85 million bond-funded initiative aimed at revitalizing the state parks system. It is the first of three major projects to reach completion, with additional developments underway at Cheaha and Gulf state parks later this year.

State Rep Ron Bolton, a Republican from Northport, said the upgrades position Lake Lurleen as a premier outdoor destination for camping, boating and day-use recreation in the region.

“Lake Lurleen State Park is one of the premier outdoor destinations in west Alabama, and it’s wonderful to see all of the new amenities that will be enjoyed by children and families for generations to come," he said.
