UA Campus Recovery Community To Host Overdose Awareness Walk Wednesday
The Overdose Awareness Walk will begin at Denny Chimes on the UA campus Wednesday and last from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Collegiate Recovery Program at the University of Alabama, along with Project Freedom will host an Overdose Awareness Walk at Denny Chimes on the UA campus Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

The event, which will kick off Recovery Month in September on the UA campus, will feature free T-shirts, addiction recovery resources, speakers and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, federal data shows 1,029 individuals died of drug overdoses in Alabama in 2020 alone. What's more, the Alabama Department of Public Health reports that Alabama ranks 17th nationally among states for alcohol-related deaths
Additionally, the state health department says 2.45% of the state’s population have suffered from addiction to some kind of illicit drug. This comes out to more than 91,000 people statewide, which is nearly the size of the population of the City of Tuscaloosa.
