University Of Alabama Deputy AD Arrested For Domestic Violence
Alabama Deputy Director of Athletics, Compliance and Support Services Matthew Travis Self was arrested Sunday morning for domestic violence.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department has confirmed that University of Alabama Deputy Director of Athletics, Compliance and Support Services Matthew Travis Self was arrested Sunday morning and charged with domestic violence.

TPD told Tuscaloosa Patch that officers were called at 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning to a residence on Gaineswood Lane on a report of a domestic violence incident. No other details were provided about the call.

Once on scene and following a brief investigation, Self, 45, was charged with third-degree domestic violence and transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
His bond was set at $300 and Self was placed on a 24-hour domestic violence hold.

“Alabama Athletics is aware of this incident," UA Deputy Director of Athletics Jessica L. Paré told Patch in a statement. "We take such matters seriously and will continue to gather more information to address this personnel matter.”
In his role at the University of Alabama, Self is tasked with leading the athletics compliance office and is responsible for all areas of compliance with NCAA, SEC and UA rules and regulations, monitoring efforts and investigations.
UA also says Self is a member of the department's executive staff, oversees equipment operations, sports medicine/athletic training, nutrition, strength and conditioning and is the sport administrator for football and volleyball.
A native of Huntsville, Self is a licensed attorney and also reportedly assists the department with risk management, contracts and legislative issues, in addition to regularly working with the UA Office of Counsel, UA President's Office, UA Systems Office, outside counsel and other on-campus partners.
According to the UA website, Self left his private law practice in July of 2008 to join the Alabama Athletics Compliance Office. He was promoted to lead the compliance department in 2016, after serving as the primary compliance liaison to football for several years.
