The victim was later identified as 72-year-old Willie Clay Fleming of Northport.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Violent Crimes Unit, said Tuesday that Wendy Michelle Lynn, 58, was taken into custody April 3 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries or death.

He said at the time of her arrest, Lynn was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was additionally charged with that offense.

She was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $3,500 bond and has since been released.

Kennedy said the case initially presented few leads, with no witnesses and no immediate evidence identifying the vehicle or driver involved.

He then said physical evidence and surveillance video ultimately led investigators to identify a possible vehicle involved in the crash.

The vehicle was later located and seized, and forensic testing was conducted.

Kennedy said the case remains under investigation and will be presented to a grand jury.

"The hard work and 'never give up' attitude of the investigators in this case led to the suspect being identified and arrested," Kennedy said.
