Work Expected To Begin This Summer On New Northport Waffle House
The new location was delayed slightly by the coronavirus pandemic, but work is expected to begin soon on the highly-anticipated eatery.

NORTHPORT, AL — A new Waffle House location announced for Rose Boulevard in Northport will soon see site work begin, City Council President and District 5 Councilman Jeff Hogg announced Tuesday night. Hogg initially made the announcement of the new eatery in July 2020, but said during Tuesday's regular council meeting that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic had slowed the process for the company.

The new Waffle House location will be positioned near Tuscaloosa County High School, across the street from Jalapeños Mexican Grill. Hogg presides over the council's Retail Committee and represents the district where the new restaurant will be located.

"COVID hit, so Waffle House had to shut down for a little while — not just local but talking about corporate — then states went to 50% capacity and various things," Hogg said. "So Waffle House or any other restaurants had to kind of step back and take a look at what they were doing for adding new stores.
"All of this was already done and taken care of, permits were already established," he added. "We were just waiting on a timeline for when we start construction. Staff did talk to them today and they look like they will be turning dirt by sometime this summer. That’s where we’re at right now."
