Today's riddle: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Residency (arizona.edu) — A new Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery residency based at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix is moving toward accreditation, promising five years of intensive training across major Phoenix hospitals and clinics. Prospective residents will rotate through central Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, and the Phoenix VA, gaining broad surgical and research experience while living and working in the city's growing biomedical hub.
2. Phoenix fire department uses e-bikes to cut mountain rescue times (fox10phoenix.com) — Phoenix Fire crews are rolling out e-bikes at north and south city stations to reach injured or overheated hikers on South Mountain and other trails much faster. Officials say the bikes could cut some three-mile approaches in half, allowing medics to start cooling, IVs, and decide on helicopter rescues sooner during our still-hot October days.
3. Two suspects sought after $93K worth of high-end items, MLB gear stolen from Phoenix storage unit (ktar.com) — Phoenix police are asking residents to help identify two men accused of stealing about $93,000 in MLB gear, electronics, and high-end fashion items from a storage unit near 24th Street and Campbell Avenue. Silent Witness has released surveillance images, and anonymous tips that lead to an arrest could earn a cash reward for anyone who recognizes the suspects.
4. Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport tests driverless shuttles (azfamily.com) — Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is testing fully driverless shuttles in the east economy parking lot, giving Phoenix travelers weekday rides to the Sky Train without a steering wheel in sight. With an attendant on board for safety, city leaders say the pilot builds on Phoenix's broader investments in automated taxis and transit, aiming to shorten travel hassles while keeping safety the top priority.
5. Louisiana Voice October fundraiser suspended in favor of more worthy efforts being carried out in Phoenix, Arizona (louisianavoice.com) — A Louisiana blogger is urging readers to redirect his site's October fundraiser to support AZ HUGS, a small nonprofit run by 26‑year‑old poet Austin Davis that houses and feeds homeless people around Phoenix. He praises Davis' hands‑on work with local families, children, and individuals in crisis, and asks potential donors to help expand those efforts across the Phoenix area.
