1. 3 people rescued from rushing floodwaters in Tucson within 30 minutes (azfamily.com) — Within just 30 minutes, Tucson firefighters pulled three people from dangerous floodwaters after heavy rain turned washes and streets into fast-moving currents across the city. Rescues near Calle Betelgeux, Alamo Wash, and Tucson Medical Center sent two people to the hospital and prompted a strong reminder to never drive or walk through moving water, no matter how shallow it appears.

Tucson Police arrest suspect accused of making 'ghost guns' (kold.com) — Tucson residents should know police have arrested a suspect accused of building and selling so-called ghost guns from a home on the city's south side. Officers seized a dozen privately made firearms, other handguns, and thousands of fentanyl pills, and the suspect now faces multiple weapons and narcotics-related charges.

Dozens of Tucson-area cooling centers set to close at end of September (tucsonsentinel.com) — Dozens of Tucson-area cooling centers, including 26 libraries and several recreation centers, are scheduled to stop operating as official heat-relief sites on September 30, though buildings will remain open with fewer resources. City and county officials also describe how popular COOLtainer sites and other specialized cooling options for unhoused residents have already closed or will shut down in October, raising concerns as hot days continue.

5. Tucson International getting gear to improve runway safety (kgun9.com) — Tucson International Airport is getting new FAA-funded tracking transmitters for fire trucks and other ground vehicles to reduce the risk of runway collisions, especially in darkness or low visibility. Controllers will soon see vehicle locations on their monitors, with the system expected to be installed and operating by year's end, improving safety for workers and travelers alike.
