Alameda Boys U14 Select Soccer Game Results

The boys Under-14 team won two league games over the weekend, Sept. 10 - 11.

Alameda's U14 Select Boys team, which went undefeated in league play last year, successfully kicked off its 2011 league season with a 4-0 road win over the Walnut Creek Blazers ’97 on Sept. 10.

Alameda’s team defense dominated the game, particularly the back line play of Kenyon Ebert, Carl Penney and Michael Woodworth, who helped goalkeeper Sam Yuen earn his first shutout of the young season.

The only goal during what turned out to be a tight first half (despite numerous scoring opportunities for Alameda) was scored by Alameda midfielder Ray Ly, at about the 13 minute mark.

The Alameda offense capitalized more on its opportunities in the second half, with center forward Jano Heljo putting the ball in the back of the net three times. Heljo’s first goal came on assist from left wing Markus Gilbert, the second was off a rebound from a hard shot by midfielder Wesley Cheung, and the third was on a penalty kick.

Showing the same solid team defense that dominated its first game, Alameda's U14 Select Boys team came home and continued to hold its opponents scoreless, putting itself atop the league standings with a 6-0 win over East Bay United-Bay Oaks Sting Gold '97 on Sept. 11.

Center midfielder Alex Achramowicz was a force all weekend, using his speed to help Alameda control the middle, and goalkeepers Sam Yuen and Markus Gilbert each made a fantastic saves to preserve their team’s second straight shutout.

Striking early and often, Alameda jumped to a 4-0 lead on a first-half hat trick by Jano Heljo and Cameron Burns’ first goal of the season.

In the second half, constant pressure by Prawat Somwongsa was finally rewarded with his first goal, a rocket from the 18 yard line.

Speaking of constant pressure, Alameda earned nearly two dozen corner kicks, one of which stung EBU-BO for an own-goal, for Alameda’s final tally.

Cameron Putterman, Mingus Knox White, and Pravash Gautam also put pressure on the EBU-BO goal in the second half.
