Alameda Community Group Offers Women Veterans Peace Post-Service

A crowd of military veterans recently gathered at the Twin Towers United Methodist Church in Alameda on Saturday to shares stories of their services and bond over becoming civilians again.

The group of about 40 veterans, most who were women, attended the fifth Women in Military History event, an annual celebration of women who have served in the armed forces, according to an article by Oakland North.

The event allows veterans of all ages to share their experiences with one another — whether it be positive or negative.

During Saturday's event, the women spoke about coming out of the military and the challnege of becoming a civilian again, the article reported.

Twin Towers parishioner and event founder Kathy Dieden said it gives the women veterans a chance to create a community.
