Alameda Education Foundation Enrichment Camps

Camps during spring break and summer offer many opportunities for Alameda students. Registration for summer camps began March 13.

When school is out, learning is in with Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) Enrichment Camps! AEF now offers Enrichment Camps on AUSD non-student days, including March 16, spring break and summer.  Camps support children’s academic, athletic, creative and social growth.

Registration for summer camps begins Tuesday, March 13th at 9:30 am. Camps include Mandarin and Spanish Immersion, Middle School Math, Carpentry, Circus Arts, Marine Science, Soccer and much, much more serving students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. All camps are taught by professionals who are experts in their fields.  And the programs come with the backing of AEF’s 30 years of experience running Enrichment programs. Summer Enrichment Camps are open to all students regardless of residency or school attendance.

According to AEF Enrichment Director Sarah Olaes, the camps represent a turning point in the Foundation’s efforts to meet the needs of Alameda families. “In the past, many families had to travel off the Island in order to find camps that offered this sort of variety and educational opportunity.”  AEF is partnering with the Alameda Unified School District and the City’s Alameda Parks and Recreation Department to make the location of the camps convenient for families.  “All the camps, except soccer, will be at Lincoln Middle School and soccer will be just down the street at the Lincoln Park field,”  Olaes added.

In addition to camps in the arts, crafts and recreation, AEF's summer camp options include many academic choices, such as foreign language, science, algebra and geometry.  “In the future, AEF hopes to offer even more academic classes, especially for middle and high school students, so that students will have more opportunities in academics than they can get just during the school year (AUSD Summer School currently offers remedial classes only, due to State budget cuts).  Of course, music, art, drama, creative writing, dance and other fun activities remain a staple of the camps, offering children opportunities to explore areas of interest at a level they may not be able to during a regular school day."

AEF continues to offer After School Enrichment at school sites during the school year.  This year, the Foundation has expanded the After School program to include middle school, with classes such as Mandarin and Woodworking.  The Foundation expects to continue expansion of After School programs into more middle schools as well as high schools.

Spring break (April 2 - 5) camps include Mad Science Flight Academy, 24-7 Soccer Academy and Performing Arts and Digital Media Arts (a blended learning camp).  Registration is still open for Spring Break.  The Elements of Music and Drama camps this coming Friday, March 16, also still have some spaces available.

Visit the Alameda Education Foundation website for more information on all the camps, including a complete schedule.  To register,  just click the blue “Register” button on AEF’s home page.
