Alameda Man Accused Of Stealing Money From Catholic Teachers
Kenneth Morris is charged in a federal indictment with stealing dues from teachers, counselors, and librarians employed by Catholic schools.
SAN FRANCISCO - Alameda resident Kenneth Morris was indicted by a federal grand jury on eight counts of bank fraud and theft of union assets, according to United States Attorney David L. Anderson. Morris was the treasurer of the teachers union that represents teachers, counselors, and librarians employed by the Catholic Diocese of San Jose and the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco.
The indictment was unsealed Thursday.
If convicted, Morris faces up to 30 years in federal prison for each bank fraud count and 5 years for each count of theft of union assets.

In his role as treasurer, Morris received union dues from members. According to the indictment, on multiple occasions Morris put the money in his own personal bank account instead of the union's. Each of the deposits was between $1,000 and $4,000.
The indictment accuses Morris of stealing union property on three occasions with a combined value of $18,720.75.

Morris made his initial court appearance in San Francisco Thursday, and was released on bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 18, 2019.
