Alameda Municipal Power General Manager to Retire in September
The city will start searching for a replacement soon.

Alameda, CA— Glenn Steiger, the general manager of Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), has announced his retirement effective September 2. Steiger has served as general manager of Alameda’s community-owned utility since 2014.
During his tenure, he launched AMP’s implementation of smart meters, increased the utility’s financial stability through balanced budgeting, introduced a local “microgrid” concept for Alameda Point’s electric system, and developed a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan.
AMP is one of the oldest public power utilities in the United States, serving more than 34,000 residential and commercial customers with a $64 million budget. The utility has a strong renewable portfolio and a reliability record within the top quartile of all western U.S. utilities.
