Alameda Municipal Power Installs Charging Stations

The fast-charge stations power-up a vehicle in 30 minutes.

Alameda Municipal Power announced today that it installed public charging stations for electric vehicles at its Alameda base, according to utility officials.

The two charging stations were installed at a public parking lot by the utility’s headquarters at 2000 Grand St. Construction was completed two weeks ago, utility officials said.

The construction of these stations, which began in July, was funded by a grant from the California Energy Commission and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, according to the utility. The utility covered 20 percent of the total cost.

The stations made for the public utilize a new fast-charging technology, the first of their kind in Alameda, which charges certain models of electric cars in 30 minutes, as opposed to the typical six to eight hours.

Utility officials said the construction of these stations is aligned with its “commitment to reducing greenhouse gases.”
