Alameda Police Arrest Man Accused In Toddler's Shooting Death

The homeless man was staying in city-owned housing, according to the police department.

ALAMEDA, CA — A suspect in the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy in Washington State was taken into custody this week in Alameda, police said Thursday.

Jerome Lewis, 31, is one of two suspects in the April shooting death of a toddler in Federal Way, Washington.

At the time of his arrest on Wednesday, Lewis was living in city-owned housing for the homeless in Alameda, according to a release from Alameda police.

The shooting was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on April 4 at an IHOP parking lot in Federal Way.

A few minutes later, Federal Way police received a call from a hospital reporting that a 2-year-old child was at the hospital with a gunshot wound. The toddler died from his injuries, according to a release from Federal Way police.

Detectives first identified a 17-year-old as a suspect in the case, and he was arrested on Oct. 2 at his home in Federal Way. The suspect, Jayson Jack, was 16 years old at the time of the shooting. He is being charged as an adult, police said.

Detectives investigating the case were led to the second suspect in Alameda. Jerome Lewis is being held pending extradition to Washington, police said.
