At the Head First Gamers League Championship tournament at the University of San Francisco on Saturday, July 23, the two Alameda Senior Babe Ruth teams, the Merchants and the Black Sox, knocked off their round one opponents and then squared off against each other for the league title.
To reach the championship game, the Merchants first beat the Head First Gamers of San Francisco 7-2, and the Black Sox defeated the Diablo Valley Patriots, 13-0.
In the final, the Black Sox ended up edging the Merchants 7-6 to take the title, but they needed two extra innings to do so.
The two Alameda teams received high praise from the USF coaching staff as well as other coaches who attended the game. Congratulations to both teams for their excellent play.
The two teams are not quite finished yet, however, and have a few more weeks of baseball to play. For more information, check out their website here.
