The Alameda Islanders U9 boys select team had another strong outing on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The Islanders, sponsored by Elite Kicks, used their speed and some inspired passing to defeat the Piedmont Highlanders 4-0. Playing on the large field at Harrington, the Islanders spread the field and kept the visitors off-balance most of the game.
Sergio Medellin and Jose Franco provided the scoring. Each boy found the net twice. Medellin scored once after a long run all the way from the center back position. Kyle Spaulding had two breakaways leading to assists on two goals. Dominic Fleming dominated the midfield. Justin Wong and the Islander defenders kept the ball well out of harm's way.
The Islanders are undefeated thus far in five NorCal and State Cup matches. Coach Steve Spaulding has put together a group of boys with no prior experience playing select soccer and molded them into a formidable team.
