Alameda, CA – July 6, 2011 –Island City Toastmasters of Alameda President Kevin Wood announced today that the club received the President's Distinguished Club Award for meeting nine of its ten stated goals for 2010-2011.

"Toastmasters isn't just about public speaking, improving communication, and building confidence,"  Wood said.  "It's also about achieving personal growth and honing leadership goals."

"For example," Wood continued, "as part of qualifying for this top award, club members achieved the level of Competent Communicator, after completing ten speeches from the first Toastmasters manual.  Additional members reached Advanced Communicator status for completing ten advanced manual speech assignments, and others also reached Competent Leader and Advanced Leader status for completing assignments from those manuals.  It's a very rewarding, comprehensive, and well-rounded program."
