Black Crowned Night Herons: Photos Of The Day

Joel Bernstein has snapped 3 photos of an adult and a juvenile heron.

ALAMEDA, CA — Joel Bernstein has captured three photos of Black crowned night herons. "The black and white adult was photographed last month in the Bay Farm lagoons," according to Joel, while "The 2 photos of the juvenile (brown with white markings) were taken last week at Crab Cove of Crown Park."

According to Cornell University, the herons leave the nest at one month but can't actually fly until they are six weeks old. They have been documented to live more than 20 years.
