Board of Education Appoints Interim Superintendent
Former Alameda Unified School District administrator starts new position today, August 13, 2014
The Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) appointed former AUSD administrator Sean McPhetridge, Ed.D., as interim superintendent at its meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Dr. McPhetridge stepped into his new role today, August 13, 2014. His contract extends throughJune 30, 2015.
Dr. McPhetridge has a long and rich history with AUSD. During his 9-year tenure with the district, he served as AUSD’s assistant superintendent (2010 to 2013); principal of the Alameda Science and Technology Institute (2005-2008); director of secondary and career technical education (also 2005-2008); and instructional vice principal at Alameda High School (2000-2003). Most recently, he served as the interim director of student programs and services at the Alameda County Office of Education.
“I look forward to returning to Alameda and reconnecting with families and staff that help make AUSD schools great places to learn,” Dr. McPhetridge said. “I am grateful for this opportunity to work in a new capacity in a district that I love.”

Former superintendent Kirsten Vital left AUSD on August 1, 2014 to become superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District.
“I’m excited about having another opportunity to work with a long-time colleague of mine,” said Barbara E. Adams, Ed.D., who was acting superintendent for AUSD from August 2, 2014 through August 12, 2014. “I know Sean will share his infectious enthusiasm for high achievement for all children and a working environment that taps on the talent of all employees.”

This fall, the Board of Education will develop a process to find a permanent superintendent that involves all stakeholders in the community.
Said Margie Sherratt, president of the Board of Education, “I am looking forward to once again working with Sean. His presence will be a unifying force for all employees in our District. Sean is energetic, collaborative and knowledgeable about our instructional programs. AUSD is very lucky to have him as our Interim Superintendent.”
