ALAMEDA, CA — Police say they're investigating a series of burglaries in Alameda early Monday night.

Police told Patch that between six and nine businesses were hit in Alameda around 3 a.m. by a group of people. Detectives have since arrested two suspects on unrelated offenses and identified other parties of interest possibly involved in the burglaries, according to the Alameda Police Department.

Police could not confirm the names or addresses of each business impacted by the burglaries. A few of those businesses, however, confirmed online that they had been broken into around the same time.

Doodlecakes Bakery in the 600 block of Central Avenue was one of several businesses burglarized around 3 a.m. Monday, its owners confirmed in a GoFundMe created to help offset the cost of damages during the incident.

The owners of Doodlecakes Bakery, Rebekah and Thomas Scott, say "four hungry cake connoisseurs" broke into their shop, smashed their large commercial window and stole $10 from the tip jar before leaving.

The suspects were carrying a cash register from a neighboring business, according to the owners. The cash register was left on the sidewalk, a few coins still accounted for, the couple described.

As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $3,465 out of its $4,000 goal.

"We need your help," the couple said in the GoFundMe. "We are insured, we are just not so sure of how much this COMMERCIAL window replacement will cost, with a fully state licensed contractor, permits, and all the bells and whistles required with a City of Alameda 8FT x 6FT store front window, wood frame."

Malaya Tea Room was also hit early Monday morning, the business confirmed online. The burglars didn't steal anything, as there was nothing inside to take, but they did smash an expensive storefront window, according to the company.

"We should be open for business still this Thursday to Sunday," according to the company. "Pls (sic) excuse the ambiance. We truly need your support more than ever."
