Carjacking Races Through 3 Cities, Ends In Alameda

ALAMEDA, CA — A carjacking that began in San Leandro ended with the suspect racing through the streets of Alameda, abandoning the vehicle and escaping on foot. The suspect remains at large despite a search by the Alameda Police Department’s K-9 and a team of officers.
Around 10:30 p.m., San Leandro police received a 911 call from a person who had just been carjacked near Bank of the West at 1601 Washington Ave., police said.
Officers located and attempted to pull over the suspect vehicle near Callan and Bancroft avenues, but a pursuit ensued, police said.

Police pursued the suspect through East Oakland, then onto westbound Interstate Highway 580 and other highways, before heading west into the Webster Street tube from Oakland into Alameda, police said.
According to police, the suspect abandoned the vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Webster Street and Buena Vista Avenue in Alameda. Officers searched an apartment complex in the area where the suspect was last seen.

A shelter-in-place advisory was issued at 11:20 p.m. for the 700 blocks of Eagle, Buena Vista and Lincoln avenues.
According to police, they were unable to locate the suspect. The shelter-in-place advisory was later lifted, police said.
Police said the carjacking victim was not injured.
