Free Comic Day

The Alameda Free Library and Alameda Sports Cards and Comics are joining forces in celebration of Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 7. Happening on the first Saturday in May each year, Free Comic Book Day celebrates this truly American art form by showcasing the wide array of comics being published for readers of all ages – children, teens, and adults – that can be found in comic book shops and libraries. Come be a part of the celebration!

This year Free Comic Book Day coincides with Children’s Book Week and the Alameda Free Library will be celebrating comics for kids with craft programs at all three branches: Tuesday, May 3, at 3:30 p.m., at the West End Library; Wednesday, May 4, at 3:30 p.m., at the Bay Farm Island Library; and Saturday, May 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Main Library. The Alameda Free Library will also have free comics at all three branches to pass out to program participants on Saturday, May 7. These special comics are available one per person, while supplies last.

More special Free Comic Book Day issues will be available at Alameda Sports Cards and Comics beginning at 11:00 a.m. and are limited to three per person, while supplies last. Alameda Sports Cards and Comics will also be hosting comic superstars Nick Dragotta, penciler and inker on Marvel Comics Fantastic Four, Ernie Chan, penciler on Marvel’s version of Conan the Barbarian, and Brad Simpson, colorist for Marvel Comics. All three artists will be signing starting at 12:00 p.m..
