ALAMEDA, CA — The heartbreaking destruction of a beloved community playground in Alameda has transformed into a sense of community pride, as residents responded quickly and generously to a call to rebuild the playground. A Go Fund Me account is thousands of dollars over goal.

The nonprofit Friends of Alameda Park and Recreation Foundation set up the account with a goal of $20,000. On Wednesday, the account was over $23,500. The goal is to get the playground replaced by the end of the year.
