Jim Franz passes the torch at Alameda Kiwanis

Jim Franz was honored at the Kiwanis Club recently when he was presented Outstanding President by District 2 Lieutenant Governor Bob Larsen. Over the past year, Jim and the Kiwanis Club have worked with many community non profit organizations and programs for children including Adopt a Classroom and Relay for Life. Bob Larsen and Russ Grant were awarded the prestigious Dunlop Awards for their service to the organization and Denise Gasti was presented Kiwanian of the Year. The Club also installed officers for the 2014-15 year. Russ Grant was inducted as President, Cheryl Saxton as President Elect, Kendra Holloway as Treasurer, Faye Bignone as Secretary and Jim Franz as Immediate Past President. The Board of Directors for the coming year are Gerald Falzone, Stephanie Prothero, Denise Gasti, and Leslie Hodgkin.
Kiwanis Club members volunteer at numerous community events throughout the year. In addition the Kiwanis Foundation awards scholarships to High School Seniors, recognizes eighth grade standouts as Hope of America students, distributes grants to numerous non profit organizations, and hosts weekly speakers to educate and inform their members of local issues.
Kiwanis meet at noon each Wednesday with the first Wednesday of each month being an evening meeting at 630 PM for cocktails and dinner. Guests are welcome. Meetings are held at the Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda. Kiwanis is an organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child at a time.
