At Least One Dead After Big-Rig Loses Tire, Crashes On I-880
The truck hit the center divider near Washington Avenue in San Leandro area.

SAN LEANDRO, CA - At least one person died this afternoon after a big-rig reportedly lost a tire and then crashed on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro.
The accident was first reported at 12:41 p.m. in the highway’s southbound lanes just north of the Washington Avenue on-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A tire somehow became detached from the big-rig, causing it veer across all of the highway’s southbound lanes before coming to rest in the center divider, CHP officials said. Other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the accident.
