All interested Alamedans are invited to come, learn and participate in spreading the word across the island about Measure M1.

Background
Measure M1 provides sustainable rent increases and just-cause for eviction protections to City of Alameda residents. More than 7,300 Alamedan voters signed petitions to put M1 on the November 8 ballot.

For renters – who make up a majority of Alameda’s population – Measure M1 is vital because it:
* Ties annual rent adjustments to Bay Area inflation
* Requires just cause for evictions and ends no-cause evictions
* Creates an independent, elected rent board to effectively manage the local rental market

Measure M1 extends protections to homeowners as well by exempting the primary residence if the owner rents out rooms or a smaller second unit. The measure is fiscally self-sustaining after initial implementation through a reasonable regulatory fee of $120 per rental unit, does not impose any new taxes, and will not draw from the General Fund.

The following individuals and groups have endorsed Measure M1: Congresswoman Barbara Lee; Assemblymember Rob Bonta; State Senate Candidate Sandré Swanson; Alameda Board of Education Member & Candidate Gray Harris; Alameda Board of Education Candidates Matt Hettich, Dennis Popalardo, and Ardella Dailey; Alameda Planning Board Member David Mitchell; Cynthia Bonta; Mari Perez-Ruiz; Alameda County Democratic Party; Alameda Labor Council; Alamedan Homeowners for M1; Alameda Progressives (formerly Alameda for Bernie Sanders); Asian Pacific Environmental Network Action; Bay Rising; East Bay Express; East Bay Young Democrats; Filipino Advocates for Justice; Green Party of Alameda County; League of Conservation Voters of the East Bay; International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU); International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1245; Renewed Hope Housing Advocates, Alameda; Tenants Together; Urban Habitat; United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 5; Fr.
