Pedestrian Killed By Train in Oakland

Trains are delayed system wide. A bus bridge is in place to bypass the site of the crash.

OAKLAND, CA — An Amtrak train fatally struck a pedestrian in Oakland this morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The pedestrian was struck around 9:30 a.m. in the area of Fruitvale Avenue and East Ninth Street.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said Coast Starlight Train No. 11, heading from Seattle to Los Angeles, hit the pedestrian. No injuries were reported among the 130 passengers or crewmembers on board.

Tracks were closed in both directions and passengers were taken by bus between the two stations while authorities investigated the collision, Graham said.

She said trains were expected to be back on the move in both directions by 1 p.m.

The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released by the Alameda County coroner's bureau.
