Residential Structure Fire at Vacant Home Under Construction

Crews on scene found a fire in the attic.

Firefighters extinguished a residential structure fire at a vacant home currently under renovation Friday evening in Alameda.

The incident was reported at 5:44 p.m. Friday in the 2600 block of Washington Street. Crews on scene found a fire in the attic and ventilated the building, confining the fire to the attic and a wall on the second floor, firefighters said. Investigators have determined the cause of the fire was accidental in nature, according to firefighters.

A total of 18 firefighters responded to the scene, as well as police and personnel from Alameda Municipal Power and PG&E, firefighters said. No injuries were reported.
