'Terrible Beauty': Photo Of The Day

ALAMEDA, CA — Today's photo of the day takes us back about a decade ago to Bay Farm Island, where Nan Rideout captured the skyline during a wildfire.

Nan described the photo as a "terrible beauty." The blaze at the time brightened up the sky, creating purple, magenta and blue streaks of clouds across the Bay Area sky.
