• Southern Marin fire board selects next chief (marinij.com) — Southern Marin's fire board has hired Heather Marques as the new fire chief overseeing service for Alto and neighboring communities, starting October 13. She'll lead 90 employees protecting areas including Alto, Mill Valley, and Sausalito, though some firefighter union leaders are questioning the recruitment process and her past legal dispute with a union in Alameda County.
