Getting a Retail Parking Lot Ready Before the Holiday Shopping Season

For shopping centers across Phoenix, the parking lot is the first part of the property a customer sees. October and early November give property managers time to address pavement work before the busiest weeks arrive.

Faded striping makes it harder for drivers to find stalls, lanes, and arrows. Restriping and curb painting can be done together, and if the lot is due for sealcoating, striping after the sealcoat has cured gives a uniform surface with sharp lines.

Potholes and open cracks are also easier to fix before the lot is full every day. Parking lot maintenance such as patching, crack sealing, and sweeping addresses damage before holiday traffic makes it worse.

Striping can include accessible stalls, access aisles, and fire lane markings, laid out to the plan the property owner approves.

Retail properties rarely have a week to close. Work can be phased section by section so drive aisles and accessible parking stay open, and night or weekend work may be possible depending on tenants and what the city allows. Sealcoated sections need to remain closed until the sealant manufacturer's curing requirements have been met and actual weather and site conditions allow reopening. The closure plan should be established before work starts, which is one more reason to plan ahead of the holiday rush.
