42-year-old Victor S. Dominguez was arrested Wednesday in connection to a deadly shooting that happened a day earlier, according to Beaumont Police Commander Sean Thuilliez.

“Dominguez was located in Imperial County and subsequently arrested for murder and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning,” the commander said.

Thuilliez did not disclose how Dominguez came to be a suspect.

Dominguez has been an outspoken community activist for several years in Beaumont, and even ran for a seat on the city council in 2010. He did not win that election.

He also spoke out about a 2012 Beaumont incident in which a local woman was blinded in a DUI stop with a local police officer. He organized a ‘solidarity march’ back then, calling for a peaceful protest of the police department.

Jail records indicated Wednesday Dominguez was being held without bail, and that he’s scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
