Beaumont Schools Staff Boogie Down in 'Git Up' Challenge

Staff at Brookside, Sundance & Anna Hause elementaries filmed their own versions of the viral dance craze. Who do you think did it best?

BEAUMONT, CA — Three Beaumont elementary schools have gotten swept up by the "Git Up" Challenge— a viral dance craze inspired by Blanco Brown's hit country rap song of the same name.

Comparable to 2017's "Wobble" dance challenge, the Git Up is simple enough: all it takes is filming yourself dancing along to the 3-minute tune, whose lyrics contain a step-by-step set of dance moves.

That's exactly what staff at Brookside Elementary School did last week — Principal Michael Griffin uploaded a slickly-produced video to YouTube last Thursday, Sept. 19, showing Brookside staff stepping, spinning and sliding to the rhythm of Brown's tune.

A Brookside teacher came up with the idea of joining the challenge over the summer, Griffin told Patch. It began as a way for students to see their teachers doing something silly, Griffin said, but it evolved into something bigger —in the end, Brookside's dancers included not just teachers, but also secretaries, school yard supervisors and "any adult" on campus who wanted to participate.

Now, Griffin thinks the challenge may be able to "influence change and positivity throughout the entire district."

Things escalated on Tuesday, when nearby Sundance Elementary School posted their own version of the challenge. In their sepia-toned video, the camera weaves through rows of Sundance staff as they dip and shuffle to the beat.

But those aren't the only two local schools taking part in this 'challenge.' Anna Hause Elementary's version takes a bit of a different take on their video, recruiting students to dance out most of the scenes.

Beaumont's schools are the latest to join the hype around the infectious song, which has been performed across the country — from East Bay CHP officers to Colorado firefighters to New York City police officers.
