How to Help Moore, Oklahoma Tornado Victims

In the wake of a terrible tornado that ripped through America's heartland Mondayβ€” killing more than 20 peopleβ€” many people are wondering what they can do to help those affected by the disaster in Oklahoma.

The tornado, with winds estimated at 200mph+, tore through the area of theΒ Oklahoma City suburb ofΒ Moore onΒ Monday afternoon. Β As of Monday night, estimates of the death tollΒ were at 51, with 20 of those being children,Β according to the Associated Press.Β  However, on Tuesday, an updated toll put the total number killed at 24, as officials say some people were initially counted twice in their tally.

The Red Cross

Red Cross officials say the best way to help is to donate moneyΒ to relief efforts. Β 

According to the agency, the public can contribute toΒ theirΒ Disaster Relief Fund "...which helps provide food, shelter and emotional support to those affected by disasters like the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma..."

One of the easiest ways is to simply text the wordΒ REDCROSS to the numberΒ 90999, and $10 will be donated to the agency via your monthlyΒ cell phone bill. Β According to the Red Cross,Β that money goes into the fund.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army has also set up a fund specifically for those affected by the OklahomaΒ twister. Β Click here to donate to Oklahoma Tornado Relief.Β
