• Jury selection starts for trial of YV woman accused in marijuana dealer's death (kesq.com) — Jury selection is underway at the Banning Justice Center for the trial of a Yucca Valley woman accused of planning a 2020 robbery that left a marijuana dealer dead in Riverside. Local residents may notice extended court activity in Banning as multiple juror panels are screened, with opening statements expected next week and detailed gang-related evidence planned by prosecutors.
   

• Direct Admission for Freshmen (cpp.edu) — Banning Unified School District students are now part of Cal Poly Pomona's Direct Admission program, which can grant eligible seniors same-day or automatic CSU admission based on GPA and A-G completion. Local families should note that Banning Unified is a participating district, but students still must submit a Cal State Apply application by the November 30 priority deadline, with possible fee waivers for qualifying households.
