
Banning, CA: Banning police are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two local residents last weekend.
According to Banning Police Chief Alex Diaz, the shooting was first reported Sunday around 9 a.m. at a home in the 1400 Block of High Street, which is near Alessandro and Theodore streets.
“Upon arrival, Officers located two victims of gunshot wounds that had succumbed to their injuries,” he said in a press release.

Police soon pegged 28-year-old Michael Carl Camper as a suspect in the deaths, and police tracked him down just a few hours later.
“Camper was later located in a home in the 600 Block of West Christie Street and the location was surrounded by the Patrol Bureau of the Banning Police Department with the assistance of Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies,” Diaz said.

The man eventually surrendered to authorities around 12:45 p.m., and was taken to the Banning jail. He was booked on murder charges and is being held on no bail, according to jail records.
Diaz tells Patch that a motive for the shooting is being investigated. Seven people have been murdered in the city so far this year.
The victims names were not immediately released, pending notification of family.
