Accused Peninsula Killer Can Stand Trial: Judge

After claiming insanity in the deadly stabbing case, a judge found Anthony Kirincic to be competent to stand trial.

A Redwood City man was found competent to stand trial Friday on charges that he stabbed his girlfriend to death shortly after he got out of jail for domestic violence two years ago, county prosecutors said.

Anthony Kirincic, 24, was out of jail just a few days when on Nov. 28, 2015, he allegedly went to the home of Colleen Straw, 34, and stabbed her. Straw lived in the 1500 block of South B Street in San Mateo and she died there after the stabbing.

Prosecutors said Kirincic was quickly identified as a suspect in the stabbing and he was taken into custody Nov. 30 when a SWAT team stormed his parent's home.

A jury trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 13. Kirincic remains in jail on no bail status. Prosecutors said that in July 2016, Kirincic entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Kirincic's attorney Savas Loukedis was not immediately available for comment.
