Gas Leak Reported in Hillsborough: UPDATED

Police say you may smell gas in the area.

UPDATE 12:15 P.M. – Pacific Gas and Electric officials tell Patch that the flow of gas has been stopped at a Hillsborough gas leak, and that repairs are now complete.

PG&E Spokeswoman Abby Figueroa says the leak was stopped at 10:43 a.m.

The leak was apparently cased by "a third party contractor not affiliated with PG&E was digging near a marked gas line," she said.

"In this instance, as is common, the contractor was not using safe digging practices," Figueroa told Patch. "It's critical to hand dig if you are working within 2 feet of a marked gas line."

The spokeswoman also reminded residents to always call 811 before digging.

HILLSBOROUGH, CA – Hillsborough police are warning residents they may smell gas in the area of Glenbrook Drive this morning, after a gas line leak was discovered.

According to Lt. Nelson Corteway, the leak was detected at a residence on the street.

"Pacific Gas and Electric as well as the Central County Fire Department are assisting," he said in an emailed alert at 10:35 a.m. "There is no threat to public safety at this time and you may smell the odor of gas in the area."
