Free Pet Care For Veterans: Peninsula Humane Society Offering No-Charge Vaccines, Microchipping & More
Donated collars, leashes, food and bowls and other critical pet care items will also be provided free of charge.

BURLINGAME, CA — The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is partnering today (Friday) with San Mateo County Center on Homelessness to provide free animal care for service veterans, including those who are homeless from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The free care includes vaccines, microchipping, flea and tick control. Donated collars, leashes, food and bowls and other critical pet care items will also be provided free of charge. All these services will be provided at the San Mateo Events Center, 1346 Saratoga Drive in San Mateo no appointment necessary.
“Our veterans have gone above and beyond in service to our nation, and offering these services to their animals is just one small way of expressing our gratitude,” said PHS/SPCA’s Communications Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox. “Simple things like food bowls and vaccines we often take for granted, but for a homeless veteran they mean the world to them and their animals.”
The County of San Mateo will also be providing no charge pet licensing and vouchers for free spay and neutering for the animals. PHS/SPCA will have their mobile medical van onsite throughout the day to provide health checks and exams for the animals.
“For many veterans, animals provide love and security and we try to help in any way we can to ensure the animal has the necessary basics to live a long and healthy life,” said Tarbox.
