Golden Gate Officials Warn: 'Serious Parking Shortage' Means Leave the Car Behind on Easter
"We recommend leaving cars at home and taking public transportation," transportation officials said.
Visitors to the Golden Gate Bridge this Easter weekend are advised to leave their car behind because parking lots at both end of the bridge are likely to be filled to capacity early.
Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District spokeswoman Priya David Clemens said visitors should take public transit, bike or walk to the famous span.
“On busy holiday weekends, traffic backups can be unbearably long, as visitors attempt to park next to the Golden Gate Bridge,” she said in an emailed statement. “Parking lots at Vista Point in Marin and the Visitor Pavilion in San Francisco usually fill to capacity early. Traffic then turns into major chokepoints for Highway 101 as drivers queue up, waiting for a parking spot to open.”

The bridge district will be using changeable message signs around San Francisco to alert visitors about the parking situation and alternate parking areas near the Presidio, the Marina and in Daly City, as well as transit options located around San Francisco, Clemens said.
