We are the only organization that delivers essential services and personalized support to connect the people living in poverty among us to the full range of resources and services they need. More than just ensuring our clients are fed, clothed, healthy, and housed, we help them create their own stability and remain an active, successful part of the community. Over recent years, more and more families in San Mateo County have been thrust into poverty. From the COVID-19 pandemic, to increasing wealth inequality, to the impacts of inflation and the housing crisis, the financial pressures on our neighbors have grown. Through it all, Samaritan House has been here to help – keeping pace with the demand and opening up new possibilities for people living in poverty. By Bay City News Service:The American Red Cross has opened four emergency shelters in the Greater Bay Area to assist people affected by a storm that is making its way through the Bay Area.The shelters are located at 9430 Lake St. in Lower Lake, San Mateo College at 1700 West Hillsdale Blvd. in San Mateo, Milpitas Sports Center at 1325 East Calaveras Blvd. in Milpitas and Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial at 1351 Maple Ave. in Santa Rosa.The Lake County Animal Shelter at 4949 Helbush Dr. has also been opened.Red Cross workers at the shelters are providing warm meals, a safe place to sleep and emotional support for people with immediate, disaster-caused needs.
