Mountain Lion Hauls Deer Off Peninsula Porch: Caught on Camera (Video)

The video first shows the glowing eyes of the predator– but then much more is revealed with the lights turn on.

HILLSBOROUGH, CA – If the sound of the family dogs barking wasn't an indication that something was going on outside their home, then perhaps it was the glowing eyes on the front porch? Or maybe it was the mountain lion hauling off a dead deer it had apparently just killed.

A home surveillance video captured all of the above, and it's now captured the attention of millions.

The footage, which was shared with ABC7 by Peter Rauenbuehler on Dec. 14, has now been viewed more than 18 million times on Facebook.

"I didn't have my glasses on so when I looked through the peephole I thought it was a coyote," homeowner Mary Mines told ABC. "And I turned to Peter and I said, 'There's a coyote on our front porch,' because we have a lot here. I opened the door and I looked and I said, 'That's not a coyote, that's a much bigger animal.'"

The deer had apparently been eating some potted plants on the porch prior to the attack, the news station reports.
