A mountain lion was seen in the vicinity of Lakeview Way and Oak Knoll Drive in the Emerald Hills area of unincorporated San Mateo County early Friday.

The animal was spotted at about 2:50 a.m., county emergency officials said.

Authorities caution that if you see a mountain lion do not approach it, especially if the lion is feeding or with offspring. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.
