Left Turns Prohibited in Active Construction Zones on El Camino Real in San Mateo County through December (ca.gov) — If you drive El Camino Real through Burlingame, expect no left turns in several active construction zones from now through at least December, with restrictions in place 24/7. Specific stretches between Bellevue and Sanchez, Hilltop and Peninsula, and Hillside and Lincoln are affected as crews repave, upgrade sidewalks, and improve drainage on this key corridor shared with San Mateo and Hillsborough.
   

2. Bat Week Screening of 'The Invisible Mammal' (funcheap.com) — Burlingame neighbors are invited to a free October 21 screening of the award-winning bat documentary "The Invisible Mammal" at the Burlingame Community Center, with advance registration required. After the film, director Kristin Tièche will discuss how women scientists are fighting White-nose Syndrome and explain Operation Fat Bat, while the Citizens Environmental Council highlights why protecting bats matters for agriculture, health, and our regional environment.
   

3. Pipeline: Hazelden Betty Ford's $40M Campus Upgrade; Addiction Treatment Services Expand in Multiple States (bhbusiness.com) — A new 69-bed Horizon Treatment Services recovery center is moving ahead in Burlingame, backed by a major state infrastructure grant and county funding approval. While the article also highlights addiction treatment expansions elsewhere, the Burlingame project stands out as a significant new local resource for substance use recovery, potentially expanding treatment access for residents across San Mateo County.
   

4. San Francisco Opera to Host Costume Sale in Burlingame (broadwayworld.com) — Burlingame residents can browse San Francisco Opera's massive costume collection when the company brings an in-person Costume Sale to its Burlingame scene shop October 16–18, with timed-entry tickets required. Shoppers will find everything from Victorian gowns to fantasy pieces and stage props, with proceeds supporting the opera while offering locals unique options for Halloween, theater, and special events.
