Sheriff’s officials suggest residents avoid approaching a mountain lion if they see one, especially if it is feeding or is with offspring. Most lions avoid confronting humans, sheriff’s officials said.

Officials suggest residents avoid hiking or jogging at dawn or dusk when the lions are most active, keep a close watch on and pick up small children and face the lion, make noise, throw objects and make themselves look bigger if confronted by a lion.
