Truck Slams Into Belmont Building [Photos]
Driver lost control on rain slicked roadway.

The following is a news release from the City of Belmont:
The driver of a pick-up truck lost control on rain-slicked pavement and collided with another car and a building in downtown Belmont Thursday morning. Drivers are reminded that the first rains of the season loosens the surface oils, creating slick surfaces that often catch them off guard.
On Thursday, 9/18/14 at approximately 8:35AM a 2007 Ford pick up was turned left from northbound 6th Avenue to westbound Ralston Avenue, when the driver lost control and collided with a 2012 Honda SUV that was stopped for the light on eastbound Ralston. After striking the Honda the pick-up went into the front of an office building in the 1000 block of Ralston.
Belmont Police and Fire units responded and found that there were no injuries. A City of Belmont building inspector also responded and determined the damage to the building was moderate and not structural. Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately 30 minutes.

The cause of the collision appears to be speed related. Motorists are reminded that during our long period of dry weather, oil and other fluids have accumulated on the road and the overnight rain has brought them to the surface making the road slick. First and foremost, slow down! It takes longer to stop or adjust in wet conditions.
