Castro Valley Schools' Truancy Rate Below The State Average

Stanton Elementary has the highest rate at 37 percent. What should educators do to tackle this issue?

About a fifth of Castro Valley public school students were reported as truant at least once during the past school year, according to information released by the state superintendent's office.

The district's rate is below both the state average and the county average.

Truancy is defined as any student who misses 30 minutes or more of class time without a valid excuse at least three times in one school year.

Stanton Elementary had the highest rate with 37 percent. It was followed by Castro Valley High at 34 percent.

The middle schools ranged from a high of 18 percent at Canyon to a low of 1 percent at Creekside.

At the elementary schools, the range was from a high of 20 percent at Marshall to a low of 5 percent at Jensen Ranch.
