• Evidence Falls Short as Judge Dismisses Murder Charge Against William Rodriguez (nbcpalmsprings.com) — A judge has dismissed the second-degree murder charge against former CEO William "Billy" Rodriguez in the 2024 crash that killed Cathedral City resident Christina Barrington, ruling prosecutors lacked sufficient DUI evidence. Rodriguez still faces felony hit-and-run and suspended-license charges, with a trial-readiness hearing set for September 15 as he remains under strict electronic and alcohol monitoring conditions. 
• Cathedral City Lane Closures Planned on East Palm Canyon Drive (nbcpalmsprings.com) — Expect ongoing lane closures on East Palm Canyon Drive near the Cathedral City Auto Center as crews build a new median and left-turn pocket for the Broadway Cove housing development through about Sept. 14. Traffic will still flow in remaining lanes, and all turn pockets and business driveways stay open, but drivers should allow extra time and use caution in the construction zone.
• California Consulting Clients Secure Nearly $6.5 Million in Proposition 64 Public Health and Safety Grant Awards (californiacitynews.org) — Cathedral City has secured a $4.5 million state Proposition 64 Public Health and Safety grant to boost local public safety and community health programs. The award, part of a highly competitive statewide funding round, will support projects addressing cannabis legalization impacts and enforcement, bringing significant new resources directly into the city.
